Christian Surfers Jersey
Christian Surfers is an international fellowship of committed surfers, who are also devoted Christians. We are stoked on surfing and believe that working out life with Jesus can be like the perfect wave!
Christian Surfers Jersey is a regional branch of Christian Surfers UK and Cirsty de Gruchy is a part time CSUK 'staff member' who is based in Jersey. Her role is faith financed and she has the responsibility of being regional co-ordinator for the Channel Islands as well as CSUK National Woman's Co-ordinator.
Surfers are a group that rarely see the inside of a church and most churches have little contact with surfers, yet most surfers recognise there is a spiritual dimension to riding waves. Our aim is simply to share our faith with surfers and the surfing community, and to see lives impacted through a relationship with Jesus.
We are not a church, but our members' represent a wide range of different churches to which they belong. We are clear that we are not Christians because of any of the good things we might have done, nor that we go to church. We became Christians simply because we recognised that we messed up our lives and asked Jesus to come and take control, making him boss of our lives and surfing.
We encourage surfers to reach other surfers, with a culturally relevant message.
Through the year we spend, as much time as is practically possible, being a presence on the beach and in the water. We are unashamed of the Gospel and try to live life in a way that shows this and is a witness to those around us. We are working with God and what he is already doing through others, while respecting and partnering with other ministries.
Our ministry is based on serving others through relationship. We are a 'bottom up movement' empowering and developing the local ministry level. We are mobilising Christian volunteers for outreach, while helping them fulfil their God given calling and potential.
Through the summer months we hold BBQ's on the beach, where we encourage people to bring friends along as well as running girls and guys surf days and a week long youth camp. We are also involved in 'serving' at the Jersey Surfboard Club events.
