WASOT-UK
Wanangwe School and Orphanage Trust was formed in December 2000 to support Dr. Hezron Mc'Obewa who comes from Ombeyi near Kisumu, Kenya but did A level at Victoria College from 1995 to 1997.
Name shortened to WASOT, then WASOT-UK as a charity was also formed in England for friends at Hezron's medical school in Nottingham..
In Kenya, Hezron is Patron of the OGRA Foundation. It started with 24 orphans on its books and now has 1000. OGRA :
- provides foster care and support for the orphans
- pays secondary school fees for some able pupils
- has rebuilt Kiliti Primary School
- through OGRA Medical Services provides medical care for 25,000 people, based at the Le Quesne Building in Ombeyi
- provides ARV drugs and home based care for people with AIDs
- supports the development of IGA, Income Generating Activities for young peopleand widows groups.
- with help from a workparty from Jersey in August 2007 is providing good accommodation for staff working at the medical centre.
- is looking at ways to become self-sufficient through a variety of projects, such as a hotel, a water-carrier, fields of sugar cane and maize.
Hezron went back to work full time in Kenya from November 2007, which has given a boost to OGRA's work.
