Jersey One World Group Newsletter 9 - September 2009
Move completed
We are now settling into an office at the Town Hall. If you walk from Charing Cross towards the Town Hall, turn left into Seale St and about 50 metres down the street on the right you will find us, with a big banner saying ‘Jersey One World Group’ clearly visible through the frosted glass window. We share the building with the Community Bank and other charities.. We are in the front office, which used to be the waiting room for Parish Hall enquiries !! Our phone number remains 498936, with an ansaphone active. Our e-mail is still info@jerseyoneworldgroup.org. To just pop in, there is limited parking in Seale St or you can park nearby in Sand St multistorey. We are very grateful to Les Valettes Trust Fund for a gift of £5000. It will cover the reduced rent we are generously charged by the Parish and support our other activities.
Centre facilities
We have space for committee meetings for up to 10 people. We have broadband access for our laptop and an Epson printer. We have a library of over 140 items from books to DVDs to photopacks. The list of these resources is on our website at www.jerseyoneworldgroup.org. We also have recent back issues of New Internationalist, Developments, Ethical Consumer and other magazines. We have resources for promoting Fairtrade, Christian Aid, Oxfam and other agencies. We have files of cuttings on a range of topics. We hope they will be well used in schools and elsewhere. What we stock and when we are open will be decided by the needs of our users. We would be pleased to receive further donations of books, DVDs and other materials. We are going to advertise for a Centre manager, initially for 3 hours a week. Voluntary help for a range of tasks is always welcome..
Open evening
You are invited to see the Centre between 6 and 7 p.m. on Thursday September 17th. This will be a time to publicise the new incarnation of the Centre and show it to our members. We hope for a guest to speak briefly at 6.30.

The One World Centre has several copies of Steve’s book, ‘Stop the Traffik’ which gives much detail about traffikng and we hope to raise awareness of this miserable trade, the second biggest illegal activity after arms dealing.
Climate change
A wide range of groups are looking for a positive plan to combat climate change to emerge from the Copenhagen conference in December. We will try to make appropriate materials available for talks or study groups.
